This is actually pretty motherfreakin’ dope. Its a t-shirt design by artist Glen Brogan. However, I dont think there’s enough big booty princesses in the Mushroom Kingdom that could convince me to wear it. I think, primarily, because it looks like an item that has the unfortunate destiny of decorating the sale racks at Hot Topic. That place has a way of fang-bangin’ the cultural antiquity out of things I thought were generally cool as a kid. I’d really hate to see that happen to such a dope piece of art. I’d definitely cop a print of this tho. As a matter of fact, I think I’s bouta go do some innanet searchin’ and see’s if’n I cant do just that. Peace!

The following is a review of Neighborhood Kid, stolen from Berkeleyplaceblog.com. I wont front…I thought it was kinda good…

“There are probably a dozen rappers who send out press releases or album promos or free okayplayer albums every day, and most of them are decent but not much more than that. Then, sometimes, there are guys who are pure genius. Guys who, if radio still mattered, would be huge. Guys who just need a voice–a place to land. Haji P is one of those guys. Earlier this year, Haji released a series of singles through routinefly and other sites that, collected, he called “Home Repair.” (You can cop it for free here.) What made the Home Repair EP so out-of-the (and extra-) ordinary was the variety. Haji’s flow is pretty similar to Wale, but he’s got a little more bounce and joy in his step. His styles shift, albeit subtly, from Chicago sex-and-girls romps to East Coast storytelling to San Francisco bombast, but unlike other artists who shift styles just to prove to labels that they are versatile, Haji P’s voices are organic. He just moves, like he can’t help it. Like he needs to. In his riff over the Fresh Prince of Bel Air beats, he tells you why: He’s from all over. Haji has lived in Hawaii, New Jersey, North Carolina, and (now) the Biggety Biggety Bay Area.

More recently, Haji P released his first solo full-length (he’s been associated with Brown Co. and Rec League). The best part is that, as good as Home Repair was, the Neighborhood Kid album is even better. The producer, DJ MF Shalem (also from Brown Co. and Rec League) completely gets a guy like Haji P. The beats are playful but hard enough to back hardcore rhymes. The lyrics, over the course of the record, tell Haji’s life story, which is another thing that sets this record apart: It’s actually an album, not a collection of disconnected rhymes to show versatility and back a few singles. Standout cuts: El Segundo (an update of my favorite Tribe Called Quest song), Mockingbird, and the single, Good Grief. Hell, the entire album is freakin’ amazing. Available on iTunes and other digital outlets.

I haven’t been so into a new rapper since I found Hollywood Floss late last year.” -berkeleyplaceblog

What has two thumbs, incredible raps, and an enthusiastic affinity for Jim Henson creations? Yup….this guy! So, needless to say, when I found out Dr. Romanelli was collaborating with the late maharajah of muppetry, I scoured my closet for the most expendable pair of denim to pee myself in. As far as I know, this is just the first in a series of “Dr. Doozer” projects…which means, I’ll be just as ecstatic a few more times to come. Besides, Disney aint doing nothing fly with Jim Henson’s work. It deserves to be in the hands of somebody who can cool ‘em up, and not zippidy doo da them to death. Bing!

Im fully aware that a few posts back I officially gave up shoe collecting. But, lets be real…it wasnt my fault. The manufacturing brands were demonstrating some poor creative choices (read: makin’ some real wack ish). I fail to believe it was to any fault of the little kids in the sweatshops. Those motherfreakers always do great work…and should be rewarded thusly.

However, the Gods of Shoe mustve recently humped and skeeted some brilliant ideas ‘pon the heads of sneaker design. Because I have found and fallen in love with the following:

Huf x Converse

This shoe is completely out of character for me. Why? Number one, I usually ONLY wear white shoes. I seldomly cop other colors, especially not black. Black shoes always remind me of army boots (Ive been scarred). Number two, theyre Converse…yuck. These were very well done, tho. Im hyped. Huf did a miracle for Cons. stolen from…

Stussy x Timberland

I’d first like to start by saying…GET A GRIP! Stussy? Timberland? This boot couldve just as easily been a sand-bucket with lanyard shoelaces and I wouldve been souped. But luckily, its not. Its like, the boot for the nigga that used to live in the hood, but then went to college with a bunch of white people. Perfect to wear all seasons for a** kickin reasons. (c) Smif N Wessun. stolen from…

Jordan Flight 45

These dropped in September. Since then Ive been trying to cop them, and everywhere I ago its, “Sorry, we dont have these in a size 8,” followed by laughter and anti-clever small foot jokes. Anyhow, this is the quintessential Haji P shoe. Not necessarily cause Im that big on Jordans , moreso cause the colorway and traditional style. I could just as easy get these online…but Im slightly apprehensive about interweb spending after being credit jacked. I aint no punk! Im just sayin.

Expect these on my feetses, son.

Solefully yours,

-p!
