Thursday, July 30th, 2009…where were you? Its cool…take your time. Think about it. What were you doing?

Whats that? Did you say you were at The Motiv Lounge, downtown Santa Cruz, gazing upon what many consider to be the most meritorious performance of classic rhythmic speech this land has ever been privy to? Good Job! Way to go, guy (0r girl..whatever)! Not only does Brown Co. thank you, but, there’s a special somebody upstairs looking down at you and smiling just a little bit brighter. You’re a real winner!

If you didnt go…well, Im sure living with yourself is probably punishment enough. But, here’s a fun-sized photographic adventure of how the night went down:

First, my homeboy Mike hit me up like, “Yo, P! Whats going down? Lets get things poppin’ off at my crib, son!” and I’m all like “Word! But son…I aint got no ride!” and then the homie Joe was like,“Son, don’t even trip, I got this! Ima come scoop you AND Dundee, and we gon’ throw down like Joe Brown in a hoe-down…listenin’ to Motown…with a goat…clown!?”

After that, we stepped into The Motiv, aaaaand….showtime!

Unfortunately, this photo does not allow you to see the facial expressions on the participating audience….but, if I had to verbally describe it (and I do), I would only be coming close if I told you it was as if they were watching a child’s first steps…on the moon!

Big ups (are rappers still saying big ups?) to Ham Diggs for DJing our set. Its partially due to him that the crowd spilled outside the door and into the streets. Thus, irritating the large numbers of hobos and vagrants who were trying to get adequate sleep so they could wake up early and get a jump start on the panhandling…and leftover bagels at Starbucks.

First in Flight tee and stupid-def cap provided by North Carolinian couturiers, Fysh Clothing Co. Good people. You should let them make you a little bit cooler…and while you’re at it, get the finger!

The show was without question the illest way to usher in National P-Day 2009. A myriad of friends traveled both near and far distances to engage in the festivities. For that, I am grateful. Special shout outs to Flax Glor, Rob Rush, Proe, Ian & Taylor, Opio, Slop Opera, The B&GC staff, The Motiv, Tanya X, Beater, my neighbor and you. No, not you…you!
